Whole-home filtration · Los Ranchos de Albuquerque

Filtered water at every tap in your Los Ranchos home

On village water, the goal is usually getting rid of the chlorine smell in the shower and the kitchen. On a valley well, the goal depends on what the test finds. Either way, the filter belongs where water enters the house.

Combined softener and carbon filter tank

Village water vs. a private well: what filtration does for each

The same tank serves two different jobs, so we set it up for the supply you actually have.

What the free test looks for here

We bring a field kit to your sink and read hardness, TDS, pH, chlorine, iron and manganese, and sulfur on the spot. For an ABCWUA home, the chlorine number usually confirms what your nose already told you. For a well, iron, manganese and sulfur readings decide whether plain carbon is enough or whether specialty media should go in the tank.

A field test can't rule out bacteria or nitrate in a well. If your property sits near pasture, a ditch or an older septic system, we'll help you set up certified lab testing before anything is installed.

Signs a Los Ranchos home could use it

  • The shower smells faintly like a swimming pool
  • Tap water tastes off in coffee or tea
  • Orange or dark staining shows up in a well-fed toilet tank
  • A rotten-egg odor appears when hot water runs
  • Grit collects in faucet aerators after the well pump cycles

Filtration and softening usually travel together

Most valley homes that want filtered water also have hard water. Our Soft + Filtered Home package combines a 48,000-grain softener and catalytic carbon in a single tank for $3,450, installed free in about half a day with a lifetime warranty. You can compare it against the other options below or on the packages page.

On larger lots with a guest casita or a detached studio, we'll talk through whether one system at the main can serve every building or whether the plumbing splits before it reaches the house. For more on village water in general, see our Los Ranchos overview.

Filtration questions from the village

Does ABCWUA use chlorine or chloramine?

ABCWUA disinfects with chlorine. Catalytic carbon is well suited to reducing its taste and smell throughout the house.

My well water smells like sulfur. Will carbon fix it?

Sometimes, but sulfur and iron often call for specialty media. We confirm what's present with the on-site test before choosing what goes in the tank.

Will a whole-home filter make my well water safe to drink?

No filter should be sold that way. Carbon does not remove bacteria, nitrate or arsenic. Lab testing comes first, and drinking-water concerns are usually handled with reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink.

Can one filter serve the main house and a casita?

If both buildings branch off the same line after the meter or pressure tank, often yes. If the casita has its own service, it may need separate equipment. We check during the visit.
