Whole-home filtration · Los Lunas

Better-tasting water at every tap in Los Lunas

Carbon filtration is about how your water tastes, smells and feels in the shower. Here's an honest look at what it does for a Los Lunas home, and what it leaves alone.

Starting from the source

Village water in Los Lunas begins as groundwater pumped from the Santa Fe Group aquifer. Before it reaches you, the village treats its wells for naturally occurring arsenic, a step it took around 2009–2010, and public systems typically carry a disinfectant residual through their pipes across the whole distribution network. That residual is what many people notice at the faucet: a faint pool-like smell or taste.

Whole-home filtration is aimed squarely at that experience. Our catalytic carbon media sits in the same tank as the softener in the Soft + Filtered Home package, so every shower, ice-maker and garden hose gets water that's both softened and filtered. Catalytic carbon reduces chlorine taste and odor, sediment and many volatile organic compounds. It's the upgrade people tend to notice first with a glass of water and second when they step out of the shower.

What carbon won't do

Carbon doesn't remove arsenic, nitrate or hardness. The village handles arsenic at its wells; the softener side of the tank handles hardness; and if you want to reduce arsenic or nitrate further in what you drink, that's what a kitchen reverse osmosis system is for.

When a well is involved

Outside village limits, the picture changes. A private well has no disinfectant residual unless you add one, so taste and odor issues there usually come from something else entirely: iron, manganese or sulfur. Those need specialty media chosen after testing, not a generic carbon tank. We test for all three on-site and help you line up lab work for bacteria, nitrate and arsenic before recommending anything.

  1. 1

    Test at your sink

Our free water test reads chlorine, hardness, TDS, pH, iron, manganese and sulfur in about fifteen minutes.

  2. 2

    Pick a spot

In most Los Lunas homes on village water, that's the garage beside the water heater. On a well, the tank follows the pressure tank.

  3. 3

    Half-day install

Our own installers plumb in the combined tank, set the valve and leave a bypass in place.

Filtration FAQs for Los Lunas

Why does my Los Lunas tap water smell like a pool some days?

That's usually a disinfectant residual in the distribution lines, and how strongly you notice it can vary from day to day. Our test reads the chlorine level right at your tap. Catalytic carbon reduces that taste and odor for the whole house.

Does whole-home filtration remove arsenic?

No. The village treats for arsenic at its wells and publishes results in its annual water quality report. For an extra drinking-water step, RO at the kitchen sink is the standard approach.

My well water smells like sulfur. Will carbon fix it?

Possibly, but sulfur, iron and manganese often call for specialty media. We'll test first and recommend only what the results support.

Where can I read more about the equipment?

Our main whole-home filtration page covers the media and specifications, and our Los Lunas page covers local water in general.
