Water treatment for Edgewood and the Estancia Basin

Out past Tijeras Canyon, where I-40 opens onto the high plains, Edgewood homes get their water from the ground beneath them, through EPCOR's system or a well in the yard. We test what reaches your tap and recommend only what it needs.

Your water source

EPCOR or a private well: two different starting points

EPCOR Water New Mexico serves about 3,000 connections across the Edgewood and Thunder Mountain areas, and all of that water is pumped from groundwater in the Estancia Basin. If you're an EPCOR customer, your water is tested by the utility and summarized every year in its water quality report, also known as a Consumer Confidence Report. That report is the place to look for official numbers.

Plenty of Edgewood properties sit outside that system on private wells. Those wells draw from the same basin, but nobody tests them on your behalf. Owners are responsible for their own testing, and the results can differ from what a neighbor on EPCOR sees.

A critical management area

The New Mexico State Engineer has designated the Edgewood area a critical management area for groundwater. In plain terms, the basin's water is a limited resource, and the equipment you put in your home should respect that.

That's a big reason we build around efficiency here. Our softeners regenerate on a digital meter, based on gallons actually used, so a quiet week means fewer regeneration cycles. Reverse osmosis is installed at a single kitchen faucet, not for the whole house, which keeps the water it sends to drain limited to what you drink and cook with.

What Edgewood homeowners usually ask us about

Scale, spots and dry skin

Groundwater picks up minerals on its way through the basin, and the crust on a showerhead or the haze on a glass is usually the first thing people notice. In the dry, windy air of the high plains, hard water can also leave skin feeling tight. Our Edgewood water softener page covers sizing and installation on both EPCOR service and wells.

Taste, odor and sediment

On utility water, a disinfectant taste is the most common reason people want filtering. On a well, it's more often grit or a sulfur smell. Catalytic carbon handles the first; specialty media can be added for iron, manganese or sulfur once a test confirms them. See whole-home filtration in Edgewood.

Peace of mind at the kitchen sink

For drinking and cooking water, under-sink RO lowers dissolved solids and is the standard point-of-use approach to reducing arsenic, nitrate, fluoride and lead. Well owners especially ask about this one. Details are on our Edgewood reverse osmosis page.

Edgewood water FAQ

Is Edgewood's EPCOR water hard?

Hardness varies, and we don't quote a number for the whole town. Your test results will show where your water lands, and EPCOR's annual water quality report has the utility's official figures.

I'm on a private well off NM 344. Can you help?

Yes. We test on-site and help you arrange lab work for the things a field test can't measure. Treatment is installed after your pressure tank.

Do you serve Thunder Mountain and nearby areas?

Yes, along with Edgewood proper. Give us a call at (505) 555-0123 to confirm your address.

What does a system cost?

Our entry package, Soft Water Essentials, is $2,495 installed, and financing is available from $59/mo. See all options on the packages page.
